Labor Day

The double-edged sword.  Unions can add a bureaucratic layer that slows down innovation and growth and thereby workers’ well-being in our country’s current economic environment,  I also have a great respect for the good that unions and the labor movement as a whole have brought to our civilization over the years.

1. The weekend.
2. The Fair Labor Standards Act which eliminated child-labor.
3. Sick days.
4. Worker safety laws.

I firmly believe in workers’ right to organize.  I also believe that they need to realize that, just like management, they need to focus on the customer.  And only then will they have the resources to create equity and good working conditions.
